From the beginning social media started out as websites for people to reconnect with family/friends and to post photos. As time and demand has evolved, the social media platforms have turned mostly into a business format. and what I mean by that is social media are a key component for businesses for their marketing strategies. According to sprout social, 74% of shoppers make their decisions based on social media (socialmediaweek, 2017). Social Media influences a consumer's attitude towards a brand by word of mouth from family/friends, celebrities, and or how many people are following that particular brand. For instance, when a celebrity is sponsored by a company and promotes it via Instagram, etc, people are liable to buy from what that celebrity says and they could be lying.

Social media affects my purchasing decisions and opinion of a brand all the time. I started buying clothes from this website called Fashion Nova (Instagram boutique) because based on the reviews how good their jeans are. Other times I wouldn't buy a product because of bad reviews. Bad reviews definitely can have a affect on a customer purchase.

Friends and family definitely influence some of my consumer behavior. One of the reasons is because I know and trust their opinions. The level of influence depends on the person and the service/product. I have several "friends" on social media that I consider fellow foodies- if they post about a restaurant experience I take note. Just the same if some of my "friends" that workout post about a new workout, gym or workout product- I will take note.

The interesting thing is- I tend to be influenced more from a positive post than a negative one. So if someone posts about how great the food was at a new place- it makes me want to try it- but if someone post about poor service or the food not being impressive- I tend to want to take a chance or see for myself.
