Mass media is a different means of technology that it is used to reach people with a broad
audience through communication. Media effects and media culture are topics that are related to
mass media that affects an individual or audience attitude, thought, and behavior. Mass media is
known to be one of the most significant forces in today’s modern culture, whether it is spoken,
written, or televised, it still reaches a large amount of audience (O'Keeffe & Clarke-Pearson,
2011). Mass media occupies a large portion of our leisure time. People spend about twenty-five
hours of their time watching television but still find time cinemas, magazines, radio, and
newspapers. In our present-day society, people are being influenced by the mass media strongly.
However, traditional watching television and reading of the newspaper are no longer popular as
before. Therefore, people spend most of their time listening to music and radio, interacting with
other people from other social networks, and reading news and information (Dewing, 2010). The
new development of the technology of mobile phones makes it easier for people to do almost
everything that they can do with their computers. Mass media is very important when it comes to
the part of human life, even though some types of mass media such as manuscripts and books
had been used already for centuries now.

Mass media over the past years has had a serious effect on the society, concerning its
culture, and the individuals who are exposed to the media. Mass media has been known to be the
form of socialization, having a long term effect on every member of society. While mass media
has been targeting each in short term intervals, the overall influence on them has been entrenched
as the consumer moves from one susceptible age from another. The long or short term impacts of
mass media are distinct and separated when its role in society is evaluated. Mass media is known
to affect people differently due to varying amounts of exposure and formats (Dewing, 2010). The
function of the media in a society is always to provide news and information to the masses, and

that is why the modern era is sometimes described as the information age as well. News and
information are always necessary for society; it can be used when socializing, making decisions,
and also formulate opinions. Entertainment is the other function of the mass media where it is
commonly used by the society, especially on a modern hectic day environment. It also educates
people about their legal rights, social, moral, and religious duties, which require no emphasis.

In this present era, majority of people in a society depends on the information for them to
stay connected to the world and also be able to do their daily activities like health care,
socialization, work, work, traveling or anything else that they might want to do. Society is now
able to use mass media n term of advocacy that can be used both in business and social concerns.
This includes advertising, propaganda, political marketing communication, and public relation.
In terms of entertainment, it has help society traditionally through the performance of sports,
acting, and music, along with easy reading (Gruzd et al., 2017). Electronic and print media,
which include broadcasting, were used through the narrow sense for televisions and radio. Many
times recorded discs and tapes were used. In the 20th century, these items were mainly used
mostly for music. But the influence on media has various effects when it comes to human life.
These effects include; individual views and beliefs false information that can slant a person’s
knowledge of specific information or even voting a certain way.

Media is something that will always change after some time, and for that, it is now being
