3x + 2y = 14

x - 4y = -14

x-4y =-14

step 1 divide first eq by 3

x+2/3y=14/3

x-4y=-14

step 2,  

(-1)*  x+2/3y=14/3 add to x-4y = -14

x+2/3y = 14/3

0- 14/3 y = -56/3

divide -14/3 y = -56/3 by -14/3 

x+2/3 y=14/3

       y = 4 

-2/3 *(y=4) add to x+2/3 y = 14/3

x = 2 

y = 4
