Containment Policy
This may be defined as being a geopolitical strategy that is used to stop the expansion of
an enemy. George Kennan introduced containment in his long telegram, which was adopted by
Truman in the year 1947. This policy was largely used in the 1940s to stop communism brought
about by the Soviet Union. It is also known as the foreign policy of the United States as well as
its allies in a bid to stop the spread of communism following the end of World War II. It was also
meant to counter the move by the Soviet Union to increase communist influence in other parts of
the world such as Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe as well as some parts of Latin America (Pauly,
2017). The policy held a middle-ground position in that it involved ensuring relaxation of
