Overview of the Project Report Chap 1 is introduction Chap 2 discusses methodology Chap 3 summary of the Import info which is lit Chap 4 primary project budgeting Chap 5 design and analysis This is an optional section which is briefly outlining the structure and content of this project work report. [Note: this template assumes a “software development” type project, but even these vary considerably and you should feel free to use whatever report structure you consider most appropriate for your own project. However, we expect all reports to have the same “outer” structure with only the “middle” sections differing substantially. Thus all reports should start with an Introduction and finish with a Conclusions section. We also expect all reports to have a Project Management section, although this need not have any particular position in the section order. 5. DESIGN AND ANALYSIS Write a general introduction about the content of this chapter. At least two sentences will suffice. System Initial Design 1.1.1 System Block Diagram add the picture of the block digram System block diagram basically represents interface of all major system components to give brief overview of overall functionality/working details of the system. It should show all major system components, interfaces to the outside world and interfaces between subsystems. 1.1.2 System Flow chart add the flow chat picture System flow chart is a diagrammatic representation that visually presents the flow of data through an information processing systems, the operations performed within the system and the sequence in which they are performed to get the solution of a problem. It should be drawn using standard symbols in the early stages of formulating computer solutions. The steps/operations performed within the system will be shown as boxes of various kinds, and their order by connecting them with arrows. What symbols are used in flowcharting and what do they mean? The following are the common symbols used in flowcharting: Action A rectangle represents an activity to be completed. Decision A diamond represents a decision to be made. Start/End A terminator shape or a circle represents the beginning or end of a process. Arrow An arrow indicates the process flow. Technical Requirements 1.2.1 Hardware components The major components that may be used in the proposed project will be discussed in detail with their technical specifications and justification for selecting that particular component. Examples are the type of microcontroller to be used, the appropriate sensors, motors, etc. • Hardware Specifications names add picture of each one of the component Wheelchair Chassis Raspberry Pi 3 Mic Sensor Servo Motor RF Tx Rx Bluetooth Module Accelerometer Rs Pi Display Module Resistors Capacitors Transistors Cables and Connectors Diodes PCB and Breadboards LED Transformer/Adapter Push Buttons Switch IC Sockets 1.2.2 Software components The required software with its version that may be used either for simulation or implementation of the proposed project will be described here with their features. Examples, like the use of Matlab, Multisim and other similar tools. The system requirements for the software to work will also be listed here. • Programming Language: Python Schematic Diagram This is the actual circuit diagram/ schematic diagram of the implemented hardware project. The thorough explanation of the working operation of the project will be presented here in different scenarios. System Design & Analysis Use the tools of your particular problem domain to describe the logical parts of your problem. This section identifies the areas of your project to which you must find and design particular solutions. Moreover, it describes the justifications for the selection of the parts/components of given specification. It will be very problem domain specific. 6. CONCLUSIONS The Conclusions section should be a summary of the aims of project, what has been learnt and what has been achieved during planning stage. An effective set of conclusions should not introduce new material. Instead it should briefly draw out, summarize, combine and reiterate the main points that have been made in the body of the project report and present opinions based on them. Be honest and objective in your conclusions. Discuss on your project progress to date with respect to the time plan you have proposed. Any variations to the original project proposal and/or time plan should be described and explained. From the foregoing details you should be able to conclude on whether you are ahead of, behind or on schedule in your project work.

OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT REPORT
Introduction
This project aims at using Raspberry Pi and RF controller technologies in order to modify
the contemporary wheelchair to add more features to it. Thus through the use of the two
technologies, the new designed wheelchair will be able to assist the disabled users to stand-up
right and also maneuver into a sleeping position. Other additional capabilities will include
mobility which is expected to be giving the user independence. The user of remote controls will
be enabled by the RF controller which uses simple wireless communication and the
maneuverability of the various parts of the wheelchair will be done through the Raspberry Pi
technology. The Raspberry Pi technology will make the central processing unit of the smart
wheelchair in decision making and knowledge collection over time.
Over time there have been increased requirements for the wheelchair users. Thus this
project takes advantage of the readily available technology to come up with solutions to the
disabled community. In addition to the ordinary capabilities of normal wheelchair, a smart
Stand-up wheelchair will have other functionalities such as helping a disabled user to stand up
with the support of the wheelchair, and maneuver the user into a sleeping position, the ability to
use inbuilt computers to perform complex maneuver as well as the ability to control it remotely
in order to make the life of the user more comfortable and convenient than the conventional
wheelchairs.

Methodology
There were a number of methods that could be used to implement this project as listed
below.

Waterfall methodology which is seen as the traditional way of working on projects; It had
its benefits and shortcoming and therefore was not chosen because it is not the most suitable for
the smart stand-up and sleeping wheelchair that uses the Raspberry Pi and RF controller
technologies.
As shown in Diagram 1 below this model of managing a project could not be efficient for
the new design since there are a lot of trials and error ideas that will be involved.
Diagram 1

Scrum is a development methodology was the second consideration. This is a
methodology that works very well with big organizations that have major projects. This also
assumes that the project is well funded and that resources such as time and finances have proper
consideration unlike in the smart wheelchair project.

Diagram 2 below shows how the Scrum methodology is implemented and the complexities
involved.
Diagram 2

Agile development methodology was another method considered. This model involves
testing of the product in the development life cycle. It is an approach of development that makes
use of teamwork where the relevant parties are involved in making decisions on the project. It
allows for requirements and solutions evolve as the project is implemented to ensure that it suits
the objectives of the project through the participation of all the stakeholders who work as a team
to come up with the most suitable product.
Diagram 3 below shows a depiction of the agile development model. It works well with software
development as seen in the diagram below.

The V-model approach of developing the new proposed wheelchair seemed to be the best
due to its process and procedure of developing a new product that involves prototyping and
verification of the products. V-model is one of the most appropriate models in the System
Development Life Cycle because it has been tested and proven in similar projects. It involves
intense testing of all major phases of the project and thus ensures that the project comes up with
the best product that meets all the requirements. The model works well with projects that involve
analysis, designing (prototyping), testing, implementation, and presentation and therefore will be
a good fit for the project (Hartman, 2018). As shown in Diagram 4 below these models tests each
module in the project and thus ensures that each module meets the requirement before moving to
the next.

Literature review
Through the use of the advancement of technology, there are options available to the
Raspberry Pi controller in that instance that include; engaging the braking system, turning right,
turning left or proceeding in the same direction. A number of sensors can be installed that work
hand in hand with the eye in order to come up with possible solutions to maneuvering around
obstacles independently (Thota, Vangali & Yang, 2017). The choice made among the available
options will depend on the pre-stored information on the memory attached to the Raspberry Pi
controller. Such decisions will be informed by the speed of the wheelchair, size of the obstacle,
available routes as well as the predetermined destination of the wheelchair.
Research by Simpson, (2005) shows that there is a need for the development of new
smart wheelchairs that can help the users to stand up and sleep since these are some of the
requirements for the disabled people. The technology is there and the will power, then it should

be possible to come up with an acceptable and working design for the wheelchair. Most
currently, units of the add-on have to vie with the buses of proprietary digital control that
significantly complicate the interfacing tasks with the wheelchairs. For instance, the SWCS
should take different techniques to interface with various wheelchair brands.
The project will use the RF Remote controls and they differ in terms of sizes, shapes and
wireless technologies as they are used by consumers for different purposes. Thus it is important
to understand these controls because they will be at the core of the project. Infrared is the most
used technology because its cost-effectiveness and its components are cheap and this makes
them be used by common remote controls (Silicon Labs, 2018). However, these IR- based
controls require line-of-sight pointing; transmit at low ranges, reflection issues, limited operating
angles and high current consumption which shorten battery life.
