How members of the family Enterobacteriaceae are distinguished in the laboratory.

a microbiologist may be forced to run a series of tests in the laboratory so as to distinguish different genera enterobacteriaceae. these include;

Nutrient gelatin tests to detect activity of the enzyme called gelatinase.

doing catalase test on the nutrient agar tests for the production of catalase enzyme which splits hydrogen peroxide and releases oxygen gas.

doing the phelynanine agar for detection of production of deaminase, which converts phenylalanine to phenylpyruvic acid
