Mass incarceration is a term that is used to refer to the unique way that millions of people
have been locked in jails and prisons in the United States regardless of the nature of the crimes
they committed. The number of inmates and felons has been on the rise and is currently at more
than 7.25 by 2010. The United States has put in place radical laws and regulations, which are
harsh causing disproportionate punishments compared to the rehabilitation processes or
prevention of such crimes. The government has been harsh more so when it comes to dealing
with crimes from a particular race and that is for the blacks and the Latinos. The correctional
control facilities have reduced which sees many people who have committed even petty crime
being jailed. The number of blacks who have been imprisoned is on the rise and research shows
that the number will still increase. Mass incarceration is an issue to the society as it makes it
more prone to crime as compared to reducing the levels. Those who are released are most likely
