Question Description

3 pages double spaced + works cited page

Gas chromatography is a very useful instrument in analyzing organic compounds. Gas chromatography has four major parts

1. Injection / 2. Oven / 3. Detector / 4. A recorder

Do a literature search and

1. Describe the general principle of how a gas chromatography works

2. Explain how a thermal conductivity detector works in gas chromatography

3. If you are given a sample of potassium t-butoxide, can you use the gas chromatography to analyze it.

**If your answer is yes, please explain. If it is no, please explain why not**

General Principle of Gas Chromatography
Chromatography is the method used in the pharmaceutical, clinical, food, petrochemical,
and chemical industries to identify a specific compound or to identify and separate the components
of a mixture. Gas chromatography more specifically is a quantitative and qualitative analysis of
compounds that is cheap and offers high accuracy and short analysis times. It relates to the
mechanism of analyzing and separating volatile compounds in the gas phase using an instrument
referred to as a gas separator, otherwise referred to as an aerograph or gas chromatograph
(Giddings, 2017). Gas-liquid chromatography is widely used. Chromatography is such that there
exists the mobile phase and the stationary phase. In the aforementioned type of chromatography,
the stationary phase is either solid or liquid, whereas the mobile phase is always gas. The carrier
gas is generally helium or nitrogen.
The carrier gas is established to fl...

Tutor went the extra mile to help me with this essay. Citations were a bit shaky but I appreciated how well he handled APA styles and how ok he was to change them even though I didnt specify. Got a B+ which is believable and acceptable.
