Unix operating system

In the 1970s Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie started the development of the multitasking
computer operating system at the Bell Lab research center. The system was obtained from the
original AT and U Unix. However, the system was initially intended for use in the Bell system.
In the same year of production, the AT and T licensed UNIX to outside parties. By late 1970s
both academic and commercial Unix production head started having vendors all over the world
including Sun Microsystems (Solaris), IBM (AIX), University of California and Berkeley
(BSD).
Unix original purpose was to be a suitable platform for programmers developing software to be
run on it and on other systems, rather than for non-programmers. As the program started being
introduced in the academic circles it grew larger and users added their own tools to the original
system. The fast design of the Unix was not meant to be portable. However, in a short time, the
system gained portability, multi-tasking and multi-user capabilities. The system is characterized
by various conceptualization which includes a hierarchical file system, use of plain text for
storing data, treating devices and certain types of inter-process communication (IPC)...
