Discharge is separation on mutual understanding between employee and employer which is in line with the procedures of the organization. Eg..resignation given by an employee.
While dismissal is removal of a person from the organization as a punishment for his doing.Eg...termination or lay off of an employee.
In case of discharge , the employee gives his resignation and gives a notice period, while in the case of dismissal, employer ask the employee to stop working immediately, no notice period is given.
In discharge case, the employer gets full terminal benefits , while in dismissal case, many times the employee looses his terminal benefits.
Limits on employment at will...
The company can't terminate the employees on the basis of race, color ,sex, or nationality.Another exception is Occupational safety and health act which governs health and safety in work place for all employees.
