A meticulous history with symptoms of nodules in the skin for skin involvement. The lesion is small and painless. For pulmonary involvement , there is productive coughing. in a disseminated disease, there is weight loss anorexia and bony lesions appearance.
Culture of the swab or biopsy of the affected site is a confirmatory test for the fungi.
Oral itraconazole for 3-6 months in case of skin and subcutaneous lesions or for joint and bone infection.
lipid formulation of amphotericin B should be used for disseminated disease
Avoid skin contact with sphagnum moss
wear protective clothing like gloves and long sleeve shirts or lab coats when dealing with bales of hay , wires and brushes or any other material that may cause cuts.
