Victims’ Assistance Programs
Victim assistance programs are government programs that give aid as well as information
to victims of a crime. The programs provide services that help the victims recover from the harm
experienced from the commission of a crime as they proceed with court processes (Giannini,
2017). There is a direct relationship between victims’ assistance programs and victims’ rights. For
instance, one of the purposes of the victim assistance program is to provide legal representation
for the victims.
Also, the programs are designed to meet the psychological and physical needs of the
victims. Lastly, the programs help the victims successfully reintegrate into society. All of these
roles emanate from the provisions of victims’ rights (Giannini, 2017). One recommendation to the
victims’ assistance programs is that they should incorporate follow-up programs that ensure they
are not re-victimized by those related to the criminals. This is because some people may wait for
many years until things cool down to avenge the victims for punishing their loved ones.
