growth. In the recent past, different countries have experienced an increase in the number of
local and international tourist who are attracted by different tourist attraction places and animals.
As a result of the increasing number of tourist experienced globally; the hotel industry has also
experienced meaningful growth and development (Ferri & Aiello, 2017). In today’s society, the
hotel industry is one of the most competitive industry, especially in countries and regions with
numerous tourist attraction sites.
Introduction to Rome
Rome is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world due to its
geographical features, parks, archaeological, and art treasures, as well as its unique traditions.
Rome is an attractive destination for many tourists as it has many museums such as the
Capitoline, Vatican, and Galleria museum which are among other many museums. In addition to
the museums, Rome is also an attractive destination for Christians as it has a wide religious
history. In addition to the museums and churches, Rome has a high record of tourist who is
attracted by the numerous fountains, aqueducts, monuments, palaces as well as the traditional
and historical buildings that are used to attract tourist as well as used for education purposes
(Giraldi, 2016). Despite the fact that Rome is one of the most visited destination globally, the
destination is also faced with numerous challenges which includes high taxation rate as well as
the challenges to meet the cultural diversity of the tourist. Additionally, the destination has also
suffered due to the ever-changing customer needs, taste, and preferences.

Rome is one of the most visited cities in the world which have seen it remain as the top
most visited region for the past two millennia. Among the European Union states, Rome is the
third most visited places which come after London and Paris. Importantly, Rome receives, on
average, approximately seven to ten million tourists annually (Masetti & Gallia, 2018).
However, the number of tourists exceed the average and in some instances, doubles during the
holy years. Based on findings from recent Colosseum and the Vatican Museums fall in the 39th
and 37th position respectively in global statistics of the most visited placed. In this case,
Colosseum receives more than 4 million tourists, and the Vatican Museums 4.2 million tourists
annually. Rome is among the top ten countries, taming one hundred and fifty countries that are
labeled as the most visited country. In addition to the high numbers of tourist visiting the
country, Rome has also been recorded as the fourth most desired country which falls after
Florence, Buenos Aires and Bangkok (Schegg & Stangl, 2017).
Over the years, Rome has been increasing the number of tourists visiting the nation. For
example, based on findings from new figures from Istat since 2016, Rome has experienced an
increase in the number of tourists by more than 4.4 percent, which is above the European
