The ratification of the 14th Amendment into the Constitution was done in the year 1868
with the intention of granting citizenship to any individual who is born or has undergone
naturalization in the US. Former slaves are also included in the amendment. The amendment also
guarantees ‘equal protection of the laws’ for all US citizens.
The 14th amendment mainly had three main provisions:
