Palliative care will focus on the care which will be given to individuals who are
terminally ill as well as the families of the individuals. It will also focus on the availability of
nursing care, which will be provided twenty-four hours a day. The healthcare provider will
have to be an expert when considering the management of the pain. Furthermore, the
healthcare provider will also have to have various skills such as counseling skills, be a good a
listener and compassionate to the terminally ill patient as well as to his or her family
members (Prem et al., 2012).
Section One: Background Information
The peer-reviewed journal focuses on a study which was conducted with the nurses as
the main participants to the research. The study highly concentrated on knowledge the nurses
will have regarding palliative care. As provided in the peer-reviewed journal, the purpose
statement, as provided in the journal, focused on the assessment of knowledge which will be
seen among nursing professionals on palliative care. The evaluation of the knowledge would
be made through the use of palliative care knowledge test, which is abbreviated as PCKT.
The authors also managed to provide the context that further led to this particular study. The
background of the study was based on documented studies which have been carried out and
have shown that the nursing professionals, as well as other health care professionals, will lack
the proper skills needed under palliative care (Prem et al., 2012). Furthermore, the studies
showed that healthcare professionals had experienced various inadequacies when considering
the nursing education that revolves around palliative care. The curriculum content which
focuses on the management of pain was absent, further affecting the nurses' knowledge about
this particular form of care. The background information provided in the journal makes a lot
of sense since it managed to establish the main problem that will be analyzed in the research.
The main problem as determined in the journal is the lack of knowledge and the reasons as to
why the nursing and health care professionals will lack that specialized knowledge. The main
