Need math help with equations by substitution. My teacher tells me to solve for y first

solve for x from the second equation 

x = (7-3y)/2

then plug it into the first eq

4x-5y = 4*(7-3y)/2-5y = 3

14-6y-5y=3

-11y = -11

y = 1

x= (7-3*1)/2 = 2
