In this news article, the author is of the perspective that drug abuse and addictions
detrimental to the lives of pregnant women. The author presents that were the top killer of
pregnant women or new mothers in Utah and those healthcare professionals may have missed
opportunities to help. The author reports that the rising population of women using illegal drugs
while pregnant and in Utah, many women who were pregnant lost their lives due to a drug
overdose. In this article, the author presents professional language and so uses ethos to appeal to

and professional language to attract the audience. On the other hand, the author tries to use an

This is an academic article in which the authors attempt to examine the issue of drugs
and substance abuse. In this article, The author seemingly assumes an educative tone in which
their aim seems to educate their audience more about the problem of drug and substance abuse,
particularly regarding the road to addiction. In this article, the author also uses formal language
to present their ideas to the audience constructively. In this article, the author effectively exploits
ethos appeal in which their qualification as university professors expresses the credibility of their
arguments to the audience. To further ensure emotional appeal, the authors have used a picture of
a somehow depressed woman to emotionally appeal to the audience.
