Hello!

Here f(x) = x is the same that

(1/3)x - 3 = x.

Subtract (1/3)x from both sides and obtain

-3 = x - (1/3)x = (2/3)x.

Multiply both sides by 3/2 and obtain

(-3)*(3/2) = (3/2)*(2/3)*x = x.

So x = (-3)*(3/2) = -9/2 = -4.5.

The answer: x = -4.5.
