The issue of immigration in the US has been a great issue of concern for a long time. The
main reason why immigration is an issue is due to illegal immigration and unemployment rates
in the US. Illegal immigration refers to when immigrants get into the country without having the
right papers and without going through the legal process of immigration. Illegal immigrants are
mostly the Hispanic group since it is easy for them to cross over the borders undetected. There is
an alarming rate of illegal immigrants already in the United States which is the main reason
President Donald Trump is very vigilant in establishing policies and several border control
strategies to ensure that illegal immigrants are not able to enter the US.
The issue of unemployment rates has been related to immigrants in the fact that most
Americans are blaming the illegal immigrants for taking up work in the US, which could have
been done by the unemployed American citizens. This has been a controversial issue for quite a
long time where some people argue that American citizens are being robbed of job opportunities
by illegal immigrants. Others, however, argue that the types of jobs that these immigrants
undertake most America citizens would not be able to undertake either due to the fact that they
are under-skilled or that they might demand higher wages for these jobs. The issue of illegal
immigrants and the job market in the US warrants special consideration for several reasons. The
immigrant’ workers occupy a substantial share of the overall job market in the United States,
which is enough reason to realize how important this group of workers is. For every six workers

in the US, one is an immigrant, either legal or illegal. Both the documented and undocumented
migrants occupy about 17 per cent of the market share altogether. With how large this share is
we realize that there is a very big economic concern when it comes with dealing with immigrant
both due to the fact that they contribute largely to the economy and due to the fact that they are
illegally in the country (Gaston, N., & Nelson 110).
Illegal immigrants contribute largely to the economy of the US due to the share they hold
in the job market. These illegal immigrants are mostly seen to work in the sectors that require
low-level skills such as in the construction sector, agriculture and manufacturing, where hard
labor is required. In this effect, we realize that these immigrants are able to contribute to the
economy by handling the jobs that most American citizens cannot do (Rector, &Richwine 44).
For this reason, we realize that the claim that the unemployment rates in the US have been
attributed to illegal immigrants is false. This is because the employers would not care to employ
illegal immigrants if there were American citizens willing to do these odd jobs. These low skill
sectors of the labor market have now become associated with the immigrants, and these jobs
include home health aide who is commonly occupied by immigrant women.
Some of the reasons why the low skill sectors have favored illegal immigrants are due to
the fact that these jobs do not pay as much; hence, most Americans have stayed clear of them.
Due to the fact that illegal migrant labor is easily available and very cheap at the same time,
employers have not hesitated to acquire the help of these immigrants. These sectors are
characterized by the need for cheap labor while white collar jobs, which are more suitable and
preferred by the American citizens, pay better wages. Blue collar jobs, on the other hand, do not
require high-level skill hence cannot be paid as much as white collar jobs. For the Americans
who want these jobs to pay the same as white collar jobs, it is simply ridiculous and impossible

hence the reason they are left out in this type of employment (Gaston, N., & Nelson 113). It is,
therefore, very unwise to consider expelling illegal immigrants completely from the labor force.
In the event that it happens economists have predicted that there will be a great impact on the
economy of the US. This impact will most definitely be negative, especially because people
would expect that there would be an increase in jobs, but that would turn out to be the opposite.
Having seen that the blue collar sector relies mainly on illegal immigrants, the minute
that they are expelled these sectors would run out of business and there would no longer be jobs
since most employers will move their business elsewhere. T...
