Explanation of the issue
In the wake of the U.S.-China trade war, the last thing that everybody needs is
cybersecurity suspicion between the two economic giants. In an article titled "How Chinese spies
got the N.S.A.'s hacking tools and used them for attacks," posted on May 6, 2019, explain how
Chinese intelligence agents got hold of hacking tools used by the National Security Agency used
on their own information technology infrastructure. The attack, which occurred in 2016, was
directed to American allies and private organizations in Asia and Europe. Experts say that China
did not steal the said tools but recovered them from their infrastructure following N.S.A.’s
attempt to attack China (Perlroth et al., 2019).
The event exposed the growing cybersecurity conflicts between China and the U.S., and
it also showed how difficult it is for the U.S. to keep track of the malicious codes it used to enter
