Introduction
While physical activity is considered as one of the preventive measures for noncommunicable diseases and enhancer of mental and quality of life of the people, the global
prevalence rate of the insufficient engagement in it by people is high. It is a problem that
informed the investigation that was conducted by Guthold, Stevens, Riley, and Bull (2018) and
whose outcomes were published in this article. According to the scholars, it is imperative to
describe the levels of insufficient physical activities across countries as the source of the estimate
for the global and regional trends of the problem and cause of information for providing
measures for reducing its prevalence. Also, the Guthold and his colleagues posited that the
stability in the global prevalence of insufficient physical was 27.5% in 2016 and value that has
remained unchanged since 2001, as well as an indication of the unwillingness of the worldwide
population to derive the benefits of physical activity to their physical and mental health. To
support this perspective, the scholars noted that the lack of global data on adult physical
inactivity since 2010 was the justification needed to conduct this study and whose outcomes
were presented in the article.
Meanwhile, the author's initial objective was to provide an updated estimate of the
prevalence of adult physical inactivity at the country, regional, and global levels as a contribution
to the literature on the new methods and trends that should influence original estimates.
