Description
SOC101
FINAL PROJECT
In addition to the material we covered this semester, there is a number of other chapters in your textbook, each of which deals with a subfield of sociological research that can benefit from the broader perspectives we have directly studied. These chapters are:
- Demography
- Aging
- Economy
- Family
- Religion
- Health and Medicine
- Collective Behavior
In your assigned groups, choose one of these chapters and prepare a presentation of the subfield it presents. You should cover the following:
- The general purpose and interests of the subfield
- Some findings from work in the subfield
- Theoretical perspectives and conclusions from the subfield, including how general sociological perspectives (structural-functionalism, symbolic interactionism, and conflict theory) and concepts (such as structure, inequality, culture, socialization, groups and categories, identity, interaction, etc.) can be applied to the subfield
- In essence, explore one of these branches of sociological inquiry using what you’ve learned this semester!
Be sure to identify any references you use other than your textbook. There are no formal requirements for citation style. Your submission should be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation or a Microsoft Word document, though a formal essay or paper is not required.
