Description

Argument paper should be 6-7 pages long, including cover sheet and reference page.

The topic/thesis is: “Women should earn equal pay” or “Why women should earn equal pay” (something along those lines)

The argument paper should begin with a one- to three-sentence statement of the main thesis. Writing a thesis involves taking a position concerning an issue. It clearly states the author's perception, but uses other people's work to articulate that perception. Your paper should present your beliefs or conclusions related to the topic, without you directly stating your personal beliefs (e.g., Do not say "I think or I believe. Instead, say "In his book, John Doe states...."). The paper should also include material from other sources.

  • Summarize the issues; demonstrate an understanding of the controversy.
  • Defend/argue in favor of your perception using all resources available.
  • Finish with a strong summary statement that reinforces your thesis.

EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK
Introduction
As of 2015, women in the United States and other states in the world earned eighty
percent of what their male counterparts in the field of practice earned. These statistics point to a
20% gap in the salary scope. According to Proctor et al. (2016), the gap in the difference of pay
between men and women has been lowering since 1960. The lowered difference in pay
percentage was because more women are getting educated and increasingly joining the
workforce (Proctor et al., 2016; McGregor et al., 2017). Similarly, the income wage for men has
been rising at a relatively slow rate. If it was increasing at a rate equivalent to that of reduction of
women wage difference, it is probable that women would still be earning less than fifty percent
of what their male counterparts earn.
At the rate of change explained above, it is anticipated that as of 2059, men and women
will be earning equal pay in theoretical perspectives. However, the progression to this goal is
interestingly slow as it is. These wage gaps have detrimental impacts to financial and overall
economic statuses of women. First, such trends mean that women are more predisposed to
poverty, as the economy becomes more unfavorable. Even when women retire, the pay gap
between them and their male counterparts continues, in that they receive lesser pensions and
social security funds in tandem with their incomes. For example, statistics derived from the
AAUW analysis of data presented by Proctor et al., 2016 shows that 14% of women between the
ages of eighteen to sixty-four were living below poverty level in federal regard. Hartmann et al.
(2014) argue that ensuring that the gender pay gap is eliminated, and increasing the level of
women’s pay compared to those of their male colleagues, would reduce poverty levels for
women in the workforce by fifty percent.

As is presented by these scholars and statistics, it is evident that the impact of paying
women less for the same work done as their male counterparts is not only unfair, but oppres...
