changing health needs. With increased health interventions and developments, the number of
aged has consistently risen over the years. This has created a number of new emerging health
demands and needs which calls for increased medical attention. While the demand for health
care services has been on the rise, the number of medical professionals graduating over the years
has been on the decline. This informs the need to come up with innovative ways of addressing
the increasing shortage of medical professionals over the rising patient demand (Kershaw,
(2017). To address the widening gap between the demand for services sought and the available
medical professions, the Institute of Medicine 2010 report suggested the expansion of the role of
nurses in the delivery of care through providing and improving the quality of education. The
