Explain how a student would not go through all of the phases of cultural shock

At some point, most individuals who move to another nation shall experience culture
shock (Barkley, 2011). The cultural shock will be greater if the difference between the home
country and the new nation is big. At times, people do not even realize that what they are
experiencing is a culture shock. However, most people go through certain phases, if not all,
which are part of adapting to new settings or environments. Also, the shock degree depends on
factors such as prior expectations and experience abroad, ambiguity tolerance, flexibility, and
length of study overseas. Each person goes through similar phases when adjusting to new
cultures. Some individuals are capable of going through the process with less stress and quicker,
while other people go through the phases and get it challenging and hard to adapt (Robinson &
Gahagan, 2010). The culture shock symptoms can include: fatigue, irritability, frustrations,
feeling out of place and lost, depression, and homesickness.
How would you measure the student’s success?

The success of a student can be measured by monitoring the academic achievement of the
learner for a given period of time (Barkley, 2011). Improvement in academic performance of the
student is one of the indicators of the learner’s success. High completion rates that ensure that
the students are successful in acquiring the honors constitute student success. Well-round
individual and self-discovery are other ways to measure the success of the learner. Student
participation can hold the key to measuring and identifying successful results in post-secondary
education. The real personalized learning magic depends on the possibility to improve noncognitive success factors. The personalized learning value proposition goes beyond academic
achievement, and therefore, its success measure does the same.
