Most people have an idea of how stress manifests itself negatively in their personal life.
Some will allude that they need to take a break from their normal routine while others will
complain of headaches and stiffness in their bodies. In many cases, when a person is under a lot
of stress he or she can find their mind racing, becoming restless, and hence unable to
concentrate. With all that, it is vital that a person has different techniques that he or she can use
to shift from the state of being stressed to that of calmness.
The first technique is being mindful. By definition, mindfulness is taking an attitude of
not judging others (Angelini, 2015). In this case, one will change the manner that he or she
responds to situations that can trigger stress. By being mindful, one will be able to embrace an
open attitude to the events that happen in life. In finding the ability to accept the events that
happen in one’s life then the person will be able to develop some degree of tolerance (Moritsugu,
Vera, Jacobs, & Kennedy, 2017). In that way, the individual will be able to control how he or she
reacts to situations and reduce the occurrence of negative thoughts. As well, mindfulness will
enhance present-moment awareness. In this instance, a person will be able to develop a new
perspective on experiences that he or she goes through. Notably, the person will be able to cope
with experiences that seemed stressful in the past since they will not be perceived as a threat.
The second technique is through relaxation response which aims at shifting the mind and
the body to a state of relaxation (“MGH Study,” 2018). In this case, relaxing the mind and the
body can be achieved in different ways. For instance, taking deep breaths, relaxing one’s
