Equal Rights Proposition: Physical Disability in Employment
Individuals with disability encounter many challenges in their workplace. Some of the
challenges are based on the specific disability issues of the affected persons such as a person on a
wheelchair being unable to reach an item above the reach of their arm. However, most of the
disabled people encounter challenges that are discriminative in nature because of the attitude of
their co-workers (Rozali et al., 2017). In the labor force, people are expected to produce and
meet the targets of their employers. Being disabled may suggest the inability to successfully
implement work tasks of a possible reliance on another person. However, this may not be true
because employers place workers in departments that fit their situation meaning they can
successfully handle work tasks (Rozali et al., 2017). For instance, a person on a wheelchair can
successfully accomplish computer tasks.
Difficulty with transportation affects most people with disability in the workplace. Using
public means to the workplace is a challenge for the physically disabled and assistance is
required to help the person reach their office or place of work. Navigating the place of work is an
imminent challenge for the physically disabled because most workplaces lack user-friendly
staircases. Wheelchair paths to the upper floor lack in many work places. In many workplaces,
employers have failed to recognize the issue that the disabled need to work on the ground floor
so they do not find problems going-up the office (Rozali et al., 2017). Ignorance for people with
