Post Lab Questions- Density 1. What does it mean, with respect if a 5 gram object sinks in 100 gram of liquid? 2. An oil slick on a river is burning. Comment on putting it out with water. Explain. 3. What error, if any, would result in the density determination of solid metal, using the water-displacement method, if air bubbles are adhering to the surface of the metal during measurements? Be specific. 4. Cite a specific, useful application of density to a common occurrence in our regular everyday world. Explain. 5. What error, if any, would be introduced into the density value of a regularly shaped wood object by the direct volume measurement method (i.e., using a rule) if the object had an unseen lighter piece of wood buried inside? Be specific. 6. We have two chunks of metal that look and feel heavy like gold. Explain how you would verify whether they are both gold.

Post Lab Questions- Density
1. What does it mean, with respect if a 5 gram object sinks in 100 gram of liquid?
Answer. It means density of the object is more than the liquid. If the density of object is
greater
than that of the liquid then the objects sinks in the liquid provided that the
object is solid and not hollow within. However, density of iron is greater than the ship,
yet ship floats, it’s because of the fact that the weight of the water displaced by the ship is
more than the weight of the ship.
2. An oil slick on a river is burning. Comment on putting it out with water. Explain.
Answer: Since the oil is lighter than water, oil remains as the top layer in oil-water
mixture. However, if an oil slick on a river is burning and we use water to put out fire, it
won’t help at all and it could be dangerous as well. It’s because of the fact that the oil is
lighter than water and ...
