Points Earned Interview with Nurse Director of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: 1. How does the healthcare professional define ethical challenges? Response: In healthcare, there are many ethical challenges that we face, especially in my position as director. As a professional healthcare leader, many of the ethical decisions depend on me and my higherups. However, that does not mean that anyone else who are not in high positions is exempt. I would define most ethical challenges being either patient-related or employee-related, both of which requires making certain the policies are upheld appropriately and making sure patients and employees understand these policies. Also, it can be challenging trying to balance what is right with the emotional side of things. For instance, there are occasions when there are families who want to hear great news and want us to make miracles happen, but we cannot guarantee a miraculous outcome. All we can do is keep them informed, do our best as healthcare providers, and present to them their options. 2. How does the healthcare professional handle ethical challenges? Response: The most important thing when handling ethical challenges is making certain we are compliant with our policies and code of ethics. As the Neonatal Intensive Care Director, I make sure I stay on top of patient satisfaction by keeping the parents/families of babies updated on everything that is happening and making sure I and my staff accommodate them as much as we can. Many of the families are already in a place of uncertainty because they have no idea how to care for a baby with medical issues. We alleviate all these concerns that families have by informing them on how life will be when the baby can finally go home. We provide them with all the resources we have and recommend outside resources to aid them in the caretaking process. However, if parents are dissatisfied with all we have done, then they can report the issue to our ethics committee for review and hopefully get a more desirable outcome than what they expected.

Application of Medical Ethics
Introduction
Ethics in health care involves the examining a particular problem, a clinical case, and
gathering facts and using logic to come up with the best course of action to take, some of these
issues are straight-forward which one has to determine whether the issue is right or wrong.
However, in some cases, making a decision can be challenging, especially if it involves two
“rights” that conflict with each other (Sarah Mohammad, 2014). This problem may result due to
conflicting views from the patient part and the doctor’s perspective. This paper is a discussion of
the application of ethics to the patients who require neonatal care and the challenges facing the
healthcare providers.
Application of Medical Ethics in the Neonatal Care Unit
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a specialized facility which provides intensive
care to newborn babies who require intense medical attention. The facility offers these services
by combining both advanced technologies available and qualified health care professionals to
provide services to the young and very delicate patients (Rostas, 2018). NICU also has
intermediate areas which handle babies who may not be sick but do require specialized care from
the professionals. Most babies who are usually admitted to NICU are premature and probably
born before attaining 37 weeks of pregnancy. They also have low birth weight, and others may
possess a medical condition the needs specialized treatment. From the class work, it was evident
that medical ethics involves four principles, which include autonomy, beneficence,
