The USA Patriot Act is a legislation that was created in 2001 in the United States to
empower law enforcement agencies when conducting their investigative activities. The act gives
the security agencies and more so the homeland security agencies power to investigate, indict,
and to ensure those terrorists are brought to justice. Also, the act sought to increase penalties to
terrorists and their supporters to discourage heinous activities that threatened national security.
The USA is an acronym that refers to United and Strengthening America through the provision
of appropriate tools relevant to crime intervention and terrorism (Gilbert, 2013). The designers of
the act intended to create a stringent security system capable of detecting terrorism activities and
taking necessary actions by ensuring that suspects are identified and subjected to the justice
system. The primary goals of USA Patriot ACT are to bring down all the enemies of the United
States through enhanced security and intelligence services. Therefore, it is essential to
understand the core objectives of the USA Patriot Act in promoting national security.
