Explanation & Answer

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

The power that is invested in one can be used in the right means or be abused. In history and in our own life, we can see power being used correctly and incorrectly. One of the major examples of power being used for the common good is in our government. Our democratic government allows power to be checked and balanced between the three branches. These branches are equal as they can ensure that the other branches don't abuse its power. On the other hand, abusing power is a common part of history. For example, King George III, whom we fought against during the American Revolution, abused his power when he had a tyranny over the states. He didn't allow many laws that would help the public in the America as well as adding on many taxes on the people that moved here. These examples show that power cannot be trusted at times in the hands of men. As Thomas Hobbes said, the natural state of men is to be greedy and when given too much power, they will become cruel and use the power for their own interests. Thus, the power given to one should be moderated so that it can have a positive effect, but not be trusted to anyone and everyone.
