The popes would use religious influence upon the people of Rome in order to indefinately pursuade them into believing they should esteem from their all mighty God. Since the pope was within an hierarchy of such religious figures, they also assumed the position of a being a political leader due to the fact the pope was placing everyone within a right path and gaining them a righteous rectitude of religious beliefs.
