Description

Some people love Texas and others love to make fun of her. According to some, we all ride horses, shoot guns, dodge tornadoes and execute people on a daily basis. Tell me about your favorite Texas stereotypes - here are some ideas: What have you heard from people outside of the State? If you are from Texas - are you more proud to be from Texas or from the US? What do other states and countries think of Texas and Texans? What are the positive and negatives about living in Texas (other than the heat - we all know it is hot)? What is the most boring state in the union and why? These are just some of the idea of things to write about - you can write about more.

Have some fun with it, but remember this is an academic paper. No cussing or slang, use proper grammar and proof-read before sending, use the spell-checker, do not end a sentence with a question mark (you are supposed to answer questions, not ask them), et cetera.

Texas Exceptionalism

Introduction
Exceptional is a term that is used to mean something or situation that is unusual; either
positively or negatively. The first unusual is something not typical while the second which paints
the positive is good or an outstanding outcome. I believe that most Texans would agree that both
definitions relate to the state being exceptional from the rest because of a host of stereotypes;
either true or fictional and false. On this basis, I would address the exceptionalism on Texas from
both positive and true context as well as a negative and stereotypic approach about the state in
different aspects.
Texas is an exceptional state because it is home to America's most expensive high school
stadium. Further, Texas public universities that compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision spend
among the highest amounts on athletics. The four institutions that include the University of
Texas at Austin, Texas A&M, University of Houston, and Texas Technology all spend about
$525 million on athletics. Therefore, football makes the state an exceptional one; especially the
huge investment in athletics. It because of its love for football that many outsiders consider the
state residents as being mad about football. In fact, many believe that football is more important
in the state than anything. However, this is a stereotype that Texans do not like (Karney, 2017).
The truth is that Texas is exceptional because football is an essential part of the state’s sports’
culture. Football has a strong presence in the everyday lives of Texans. High schools build
stadiums that serve as the pride of their districts. For instance, a district in the state spent over
$72 million in 2016 in upgrading their football stadium yet they also had the need to build a new
elementary school.

Secondly, people outside Texas believe that the state is exceptional in relation to the
political system of the United States. Firstly, numerous Texans have made it to the Oval Office at
the White House. These include Lyndon Johnson, the Bushes; George H. Bush and George W.
Bush as presidents of t...
