Common Behaviour Issues & Solutions in Early Childhood Setting
Introduction
Psychological development of children especially in early childhood is affected by a
number of behavioural problems and issues. It is the candid role of parents to ensure that their
children are well off in terms of behavioural development thus they require constant checkups
(Brotman et al., 2011). There is some form of disrespectful behaviour that is common at one
point. The way in which parents and teachers respond to these behaviour problems does play a
major role in how the child is likely to repeat them in future. Behavioral problems affecting
millions of children in the United States of America do affect their ability to behave well in
institutions of higher learning. It is the role of parents and teachers to joint efforts in order to
address common behavioral issues that affect millions of children enrolled at school.
Generally, children in early childhood setting are known to lie for the sake of seeking for
attention, avoiding trouble from teachers and parents and also to feel better. Therefore, by being
able to understand the reason as to why children lie is the preliminary step of taking the best
course of action such as stating to him/her the devastating consequences of lying. Defiance is
another common problem that affects many children in schools and at home. Defiance is known
to be difficult behaviour to address and parents are teachers are supposed to join efforts in
ensuring that this behaviour has been addressed in the best way possible (Brotman et al., 2011).
Defiance may be manifested by the way in which children spend too much time on the screen at
the expense of their homework. In such a scenario, failure to set comprehensive school rules and
regulations may make children to be defiant for the rest of their lives.

Some children are known to have unhealthy dietary behaviour such as overeating snacks,
name calling, throwing things around and even mocking teachers and other family members.
Unless addressed within the right time, disrespectful behaviour is likely to get worse with time.
Whining is another bad habit that is common among children within early childhood setting.
Impulsive behaviour such as being verbally impulsive (blurting things out that hurt people’s
feelings) is common among children. Bedtime behaviour problems such as refusing to stay in
bed or even insisting to sleep with parents are common. Some children tend to manifest
aggressive behaviour such as punching other schoolmates or throwing a matchbox once
frustrated. Temper tantrums is also a common problem that affects may children at school and
home (Borrego Jr & Burrell, 2010). Therefore, it is necessary to come up with indomitable
strategies in order to bring up children in the right way.
Statement of the Issues Being Explored
There are number of defective behaviors as manifested by early children especially in
schools. Indeed some children tend to have difficult and challenging behaviors that are outside
norm of their age. Some of the unique behaviors do emanate from temporary stressors in the life
of a child. Oppositional defiant behaviour, conduct disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity
disorder are common problems that affect millions of children in schools and at home. It is
evident that boys are at high risk of suffering from behavioural disorders compared to girls.
There is variety of treatment options such as cognitive behavioral therapy, parent management
training, medications and other forms of treatment associated with problems affecting millions of
children.

All young children can be naughty, impulsive and defiant from time to time thus parents
and teachers do have a concrete role of ensuring that they are okay. However, a significant
number of children do have difficult and challenging behaviour that do make it hard for parents
and teachers to manage them in a proper manner. The above three behavioural disorders do share
some common symptoms thus the general process of behaviour management by teachers and
parents tend to be difficult (Borrego Jr & Burrell, 2010). Children at the adolescent age tend to
have more than two of the disorders and this is linked to a number of factors such as mood
swings, emotional problems, substance and drug abuse at home, defective parental care and
family difficulties. Teachers, parents and guardians are supposed to be aware of these behaviors
in order to bring children that are all way round and psychologically stable.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
It is estimated that out of ten children under the age of twelve years, one is thought to be
