You had a couple of grammar issues along with a couple of sentences being unclear. For example, “Amnesty International is a body of volunteers, who are either members or supporters.” It would be helpful to the reader if you explained what they were member or supporters of, fighting for or against human rights? Netiquette is important when communicating with others in the online environment because it describes the interaction clearly through respect being shown to others. Netiquette helps students remained focused, enables further participation, avoids repetition, increases the proper ways of writing, and respects the diversity of the students and instructors. First, netiquette is an internet etiquette, that means it is a manner of online communication or a right approach or a standard in which we are expected to communicate via the internet (Semingson & Owens, 2017). It is essential because it is nonverbal, there’s nobody language used to express you're teaching, it saves a record for feature references when it is practiced; it makes communication very clear and precise (Grammar, Punctuations, Paragraph, etc.). Netiquette helps to keep the relationship close by allowing people that are far away from one another to keep in touch, it keeps group conservation clear and very constructive as well. What are the consequences of lousy netiquette in the classroom? In your response, be sure to reflect on how it feels to be addressed with bad netiquette, and how you think others feel. Given that you can’t get physically express your thoughts verbally, display facial expressions, and so forth, it is vital to understand the proper netiquettes of the online environment. What you are writing represents those non-physical characteristics of communication. Thus, sometimes, one can write as they speak, and this isn’t good with online communication (Semingson & Owens, 2017). The way you write could be expressed differently than how you would say it. Thus, creating challenges and possible feelings of disrespect towards those who are reading it, although you had no intentions of your words coming off that way. Bad netiquette in the online environment can display negative reflections in the class setting. This LEARNING JOURNAL UNIT 3 3 could also increase the chances of peers lacking the interest to read what you are writing; thus, learning is being reciprocated. The online medium is poor at conveying tone, especially sarcasm and humor (Semingson & Owens, 2017). Taking a moment to re-read everything you write: assume that it will be taken in the worst possible light. And conversely, extend courtesy to others: consider the most charitable view reasonable. Grace on both sides makes for better communication. How does netiquette relate to peer assessment? Netiquette relates to peer assessments in ways that provide proper, well-mannered, educated, and improvement in the end towards the student. When assessing peers, politeness, and courtesy are of the most importance (Semingson & Owens, 2017). Whether agreeing with the peer or not, the review given on their work should be in a well thought out manner that adheres to professional standards while incorporating proper netiquette communication with them. Why is it essential to use good manners when leaving feedback? Feedback is supposed to help strengthen and encourage the peer to do better on what he or she may have missed. Displaying bad netiquette on input and can be discouraging to the student. Leaving lousy feedback and not representing the construct of what the student has written and how they have met or not the met prompts isn’t leaving them with room to improve. That is the point behind feedback, to enable improvement and encouragement on future assignments and tasks. It is also essential to not make the one you are peer reviewing, being left with a feeling of being the lesser of inferior to you (Semingson & Owens, 2017). You must always remain on a healthy level with peer students and courteously provide feedback, but that shows the student how they can improve. Good manners increase the chances of learning from LEARNING JOURNAL UNIT 3 4 different perspectives, leaving behind a positive review, and preventing bias during the peer review assessment. How do you feel about the feedback you received this week? What about the feedback you gave? Honestly, I am just now getting used to the peer concept. I have not liked the feedback I have gained; some lack details as to where I missed points at. I don’t mind losing points, but I get upset when I lose points over something that wasn’t clearly explained as to why I lost those points. When this happens, there is no room for me to do better on the next assignment because I am not sure as to what I missed on the last given the lack of feedback skills. However, now that I am getting used to the peer assessments, I am beginning to enjoy them often. Honestly, giving feedback for me is quite difficult. It is hard to judge another’s point of view and thoughts and then relate them to the prompts themselves to ensure they have met the requirements. Some students lack the ability to adequately displaying their ideas, to begin with, not to mention so much improper sentencing, miss-spelled words, run-on sentences, and inappropriate uses of the English language. It does become difficult on some peer assessments. I must keep in mind that the evaluations aren’t based on the use of proper language or grammar, that I should be looking more into the actual prompts of the assignment being met. If no, did your results change from the last time? If so, did your learning style results surprise you? We all have different styles of learning and we all learn different than others. I have already learned the different learning styles in a prior class, however, this was the first time I have taken an inventory to measure my learning style. According to the results, they were a bit surprising given that I have always been the one who likes to read and write a lot. I am the type of person that tried to suck all the information I can up regarding the concepts and topics I am learning about. However, I did measure a bit higher in visual that I thought I would. My visual score was 5, Aural was 2, Read/Writing 9, and Kinesthetic was a 6. I did expect the outcome to be higher in the reading and writing area, given the ways I have always liked to learn. Now that you have identified your learning style, how will you apply this knowledge to your studying? Although these results have given me knowledge on other types of learning I am capable of, it wasn’t surprising that my highest score was with the learning style I already knew I was capable of and that worked best for me. However, understanding more of why this style best suits me can enable me to increase my self-confidence, improve my self-image, learn methods of working my brain more in grasping the concepts I am learning, and enabling me to enjoy the learning process more than I do now (Dyer & Riley & Yekovich, 2015). This type of learning style also inspired to gain an increased curiosity and motivation that will enable me to become a better learner. LEARNING JOURNAL UNIT 6 3 Reflect on the studying strategies you have used previously. Have your study habits been effective? Why or why not? What studying strategies from this week do you think will be helpful? The studying strategies that I have used previously relates to my current style, reading and writing down concepts, and visual learning. I do like visual learning when it comes to certain aspects of my learning. For instance, in my psychology class it is easier to visually graph the different theorists and what their roles was with science. However, using the visual method doesn’t suite me with most of my learning that I conduct. Some studying strategies that will best suite me is to begin focusing on areas that I have the most difficulty with, developing greater critical reading and thinking skills when I am taking notes. This can be done using putting notes into my own words and then maybe relating those notes to a real-world situation if possible. Also, asking myself questions about what I am learning can help develop those greater thinking skills that I am trying to aim for. I have never been the type to be sociable given my history of drug addiction in my earlier teen years brought on by own my mother. Given those experiences, and now that I have been clean going on 11 years, I have always been scared to take on socially involved environments for the fear of returning to my old habits. Reasons Why My Goal Wasn’t Successful Given those experiences, and now that I have been clean going on 11 years, I have always been scared to take on socially involved environments for the fear of returning to my old habits. Therefore, the goal that I had set for myself becoming socially involved hasn’t been met yet. Goal Accomplished I set a goal upon my cleanliness of drugs to become more educated and learn the dynamics of life. Given my past experiences, I feel that have better prepared me for the future in which I intend to readily take on. Reasons Why My Goals Was Successful The reasons of achieving an education and learning the true dynamics of life has been successful is because I have realized I need to become a better role model for my children. I no way, would I ever want them to experience the life I have. Questions 2 Why does effective goal-setting help us achieve goals? Goals Help Us Believe in Ourselves. Setting goals for yourself is a way to fuel your ambition. Goal setting isn't just about creating a plan for your life and holding yourself accountable, it’s also about giving us the inspiration necessary to aim for things we never thought possible (Epton & Currie & Armitage, 2017). Effective goal-setting enables us to achieve those goals because of the directions in which the goals set us to towards, the clear focus that becomes established during the goal setting method, and the clarity in which we develop given our decision making of those goals. What are the characteristics of good goals? The purpose of effective goal setting is to achieve what you want in life in a successful, focused and decisive manner by taking the right actions in a lesser time frame. Good goals are set with belief, specifics, are reasonably measurable, realistic, attainable, and timely.
