Description
For your response to a classmate (two responses required, one in each option), solve your classmate’s confidence interval or hypothesis test problem, using a significance level not previously used Make sure that you use appropriate terminology and specify whether you are using the classical method or the p-value method.
Response 1:
I was interested in knowing if the average weight of an acorn from a white oak tree was different than the average weight of an acorn from a chestnut oak tree. I collected 8 random samples from a white oak tree and came out with the weights of: 1.2 g, .9 g, 2.0 g, 1.4 g, 1.3 g, .7 g , 1.1 g, 1.0 g. I collected 8 random samples from a chestnut oak and came out to the weights of: .9 g, 1.2 g, 2.2 g, 1.1 g, 2.4 g, 1.0 g, 2.0 g, .9 g.
White Oak | Chestnut Oak |
1.2g | .9g |
.9g | 1.2g |
2.0g | 2.2g |
1.4g | 1.1g |
1.3g | 2.4g |
.7g | 1.0g |
1.1g | 2.0g |
1.0g | .9g |
Compute a 95% confidence interval of the given population means.
Response 2:
The makers of the anxiety drug Xanax, reported that 26 of the 374 subjects who took the drug experienced hallucinations as a side effect, compared to 8 of the 210 subjects who were on a placebo. None of patients knew which treatment they were given. In the sample, a larger percentage of the people on the drug experienced hallucinations, but is this percentage enough to say that the entire population on the drug would experience more hallucinations? Use the α = 0.05 level of significance.
