If for each value of x there is a unique value of y, then it is called as a function otherwise not.

x=3y^2 + 2 , since y= {sqrt(x-2)}/3. here for 1 value of x, we will get two value of y. So here y is not a function of x in this equation.

x= (1/2)y^2 , since y=sqrt(2x).  here for 1 value of x, we will get two value of y. So here y is not a function of x in this equation.

x=3y, here y is a function of x.

y= -x^2 + 8 , here y is a function of x.
