Key features and purpose of FMLA
The Family and Medical Leave Act is a law on labor that requires those huge employing
organizations to give provision of leave that is unpaid to employees for serious health issues of the
family. Such reasons on the medical and family basis are inclusive of issues such as military leave,
illness that is personal, family, foster care placement, pregnancy, and adoption. It also gives
provision for perpetuation of coverage in health insurance and protection of job (Grossman 2004).
The FMLA objectives are to bring in a provision for families with the resources and the
time to take care of emergencies in the family and at the same time guiding the employers. It is a
way through which the federal government acknowledges changes in the labor force, family,
workplace and what both employers and employees expect. Like in the case of proliferation of
households with single a parent or families where working is for both parents. The FMLA aims at
doing away with the choice that parents and workers have to make between taking care of their
families and job security or extended and elderly family.
