Barriers in Trying To Being Adherent to Taking Your Medications
As a patient, there are several reasons that would make me reluctant to take the outlined
medications. The non-adherence would either be intentional or nonintentional and could be
attributed to:
i.

Fear-one of the reasons that would negatively influence failure to take the
medications is fear of the potential side effects. There might be side effects
experienced when taking the medications and the belief that such side effects would
only increase which would make me intentionally stop.

ii.

Cost-the cost of all the medications combined is not cheap, and hence I might be
forced to ration or fail to fill the prescription altogether.

iii.

Further, there is a possibility that I may not understand fully the need for the
medicine, or fail to see results immediately hence being discouraged.
