PHIL 2100 Macomb Community College Marcus Aurelius Discussion
Marcus Aurelius!Hello, I have some work to do , everything is explained below. make sure to watch videos ans answer the questions 1- After watching this week's video lecture on Marcus Aurelius, think back to the illustration of "Gyges' Ring" that was included in Week #1 of the course. (You may want to rewatch the video if you need a refresher!) The questions I would ask you to consider are: Does the example of Marcus Aurelius support Plato's view that the wise individual would *not* use the ring for evil? Does the example of Marcus Aurelius show that "virtue is its own reward"? Does the example of Marcus Aurelius disprove the idea that "everyone always acts selfishly"? Lastly, please state one or two ideas from the video that stood out for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ21P2csEV0 (Gyge's video)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ21P2csEV0 (Marcus Aurelius video) Also you have to answer these questions below : Reading Review questions: The reading for this week will be pages 35-45 and 47-57 from GT.1. In Section 2 (of our first reading) Epicurus offers his argument for why we should not fear death. Please summarize this argument.2. In Section 6 (of our second reading) Epictetus characterizes those things that are both within our power and beyond our power. Please summarize these characterizations. What is the effect of our pursuing those things that are within our power and those that are not?3. In Section 7 (of our second reading) Epictetus reminds us that each of us is “an actor in a drama.” What does he mean by this? What is he trying to teach us?Note: Response for Reading Review questions should be at least three complete sentences in length!

Answer to discussion prompt 2. And I'm going to send you 2 comments from my peers that we should write 2 replies for each.
Discussion Prompt 1Life Expectancy: What Does It Take to Live a Long Life?According to the CDC, the current average life expectancy is 78.7 years old. Although there are some who live much longer, even up to 120 years. In your opinion, what factors contribute to those who live well beyond the average age? Consider lifelong healthcare regiments, attitudes, and behaviors. Are these factors in agreement with what psychologists find to be common in centenarians? Support your reasoning with information from the text and other course materials.I have only this question done. Here is the answer. To live longer means that an individual has good mental and body health. The following are the factors that contribute to a healthy person. The factors below are consistent with what psychologists find common with centenarians.1. Balanced and sufficient diet comprising of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. The matter of balanced diet implies that the food an individual takes should comprise major food classes such as carbohydrates, proteins, and vitamins. Nutritional and dietetics professionals underscore that people should prioritize plants proteins over animal proteins. Vitamins are derived from vegetables and fruits such as pawpaw, mango, and apples.2. Physical and mental exercises such as swimming, running, and reading or watching interesting episodes. An individual is supposed to set their own schedule on when to carry out the physical exercises. It is also important to emphasize that the exercises should be done on regular bases, and should not be strenuous.3. Avoid daily stressors that serve as potential threats to mental health, making an individual susceptible to stress and depression.Discussion Prompt 2Socioemotional Selectivity TheoryPsychologists claim that those in late adulthood are more selective about the company they keep because they are less willing to invest in relationships with emotional risk and they place a higher value on emotional satisfaction. Do you feel this a valuable way to approach social relationships? Why or why not? Could this approach be useful in other periods of development? If so, how? Support your reasoning with information from the text and other course materials.
