In what ways do you see mindset, or mental attitude, playing a role in Robert Donat’s
success?
Mindset played a huge role in Donat’s success. When starting his business, he had the
right mindset. According to Neck, Neck, and Murray (2017), growth mindset makes people
believe they can develop their abilities through effort, dedication, and hard work. Individuals
who have a growth mindset believe that brains and talent alone cannot result in lifelong success,
but are a significant starting point. These individuals are keen to enhance their abilities through
practice, training, and lifelong learning.
Since the beginning, Robert Donat maintained an open mind because he knew he needed
a new job. While working as an artillery officer to find a perfect tracking product for a local
trucking firm, he researched five systems that were on the market during that period and realized
he had better ideas that would improve the industry. He remained focused throughout the venture
and believed in his ideas.
Another characteristic of people with a growth mindset is perseverance. Donat had to sell
his stake in another company, take up bank loans amounting to $150000, and enter expensive
leases to buy computer hardware as he did not have any other alternative to raise the money. He
