American women laborers during World War II. How did they help change the course of
the war and society itself?
In recent history, particularly in the twentieth century, two world wars developed that left
teachings for future generations. For example, in the second war, we see the importance that
women play to achieve common goals. With this, the women's workforce increased and became
more decisive in the course of the war and the development of the country. With many variations
and deficiencies, women became increasingly involved in the labor market. Despite the
disadvantages involved, the overturning of women to the entire structure of national production
was massive. For example, in this article, Professor Schweitzer gives us this information "In
1940, the nation was recovering from what was probably the most severe depression in its
history. Twenty-seven percent of all women over fourteen were in the labor force; of these about
one-fifth were unemployed. Women with jobs generally worked in occupations and industries
that were disproportionately female, and they earned wages substantially lower than men's. "
(Schweitzer, 1980). It is evident that with these high percentages of women entering the labor
market more and more, the state was benefited and solved. Since it would only be to put in
context the demand and the number of men to supply it, in other words, women play a
fundamental role in this stage to promote not only the arms industry but also to produce in other
essential areas. However, all this work is developed with many limitations, which makes it even
more precarious than it was at the time.
