In the Martin Luther King case, what could have been done to reduce the number of
unproductive or false leads? What did the FBI do well? What could the FBI have done
better?

The events of 4th April 1968 remain a controversy and especially to Kings family members
who believe that the wrong man went to prison for King's death. James Earl Ray was captured in
June of the same year, and ten months later he pleaded guilty and from his own confession
admitting that he was the one who committed the murder. Three days later after his plea he
admitted that it was a conspiracy to cover the truth and that his lawyer had lured him to confess.
However, even after his case being reviewed by other independent investigators like John
Campbell, a district attorney, his investigations still led him to Ray being guilty of the murder
which leaves us with no choice but believing that Ray was the man behind the murder (Garrow,
2015).
