4+3(8-3)^2

This is how you go about it:

There is an ancient RULE abbreviated BODMAS which gives a guideline on how to work out such problems.

The B stands for BODMAS and tells us that we first work out what is inside the brackets. In our case we get 8-3 first which gives 5. Rewriting it gives:

4+3(5)^2

Next we Raise the number in the Brackets to the given power, since the orexponent is part of the brackets, we evaluate it before we multiply:

we therefore get 5^2 which gives a 25

Our problem looks like this

4+3(25)

Continue with the brackets again and here we multiply 3 with 25 getting 75 on which we add 4 and our answer becomes .

79
