Business intelligence refers to the use of information to target potential customers, for
advertisement or to pass crucial information about company products. Currently, most global
companies make use of business intelligence to market their products. In many instances,
business intelligence has been used to reach unsuspecting targets that end up having a feeling
that their privacy needs have been surpassed. In other scenarios, as noted by Turban et al. (2010),
companies collect information from unsuspecting customers and use the information to their
advantage. Under such situations, the use of such information is considered unethical and against
the law. In this research, an analysis of the use of data is carried out under the umbrella of
business intelligence in two different scenarios.
