Capital punishment involves the judicial process of killing an individual as a punishment
for a crime committed. There have been heated debates over capital punishment between those
opposing and supporting it. Christian argument in support capital punishment as it maintains
order and protects society. Their argument is based on the Bible, in which God mandated the use
of the death penalty after the Noahic Flood. Therefore, the death penalty is acceptable to God
and it is a form of retribution. This is further reinforced by Roman Catholic teachings that peace
and protection of the society were more vital than reforming the criminal. On the other hand,
some Christians believe that the death penalty cannot be justified as Jesus Christ reformed all
sinners. They also oppose capital punishment based on the sanctity of life as depicted in the New
Testament. This essay will, therefore, present an argument supporting capital punishment
rudimentary to retribution, deterrence, and cost.
Execution is effective retribution for heinous crimes committed. A just and fair society
