Violence and political maneuvering are some of the constant factors that have risen in
the lead up to Guatemala's elections with some candidates attempting to delegitimize the
country's electoral process. The continued crisis in the country means the development of
uncertainty in the upcoming election. Uncertainty in the election has witnessed lawsuits and
violence that includes the assassination of a left-wing mayoral candidate that comprised some
part of attacks against the indigenous and rural organizations in the country (Abbott). The
election has the center-right candidate who came second in the previous election as the frontrunner because the major candidates such as Thelma Aldana, the former Attorney General
and the daughter of Dictator Efrain Rios Montt, Zury Rios are barred from running.
