Counterpoint A: Although the opponents of soda banning argue that banning soda takes away peoples freedom of choice, drinking soda should be banned because of the associated health repercussions such as diabetes and obesity. 1. Even though people have a freedom of choice, in some cases that freedom should be curtailed for their own benefit hence soda consumption should be banned. 2. Moreover, people’s right of choice should not be misused in the name of fighting for products that harm their health such as soda consumption hence soda drinking should be banned. Rebuttal A: Although drinking soda has some negative health issues, soda consumption should not be banned because it is good for the health. 1. This is because consumption of soda has some more benefits than harms 2. Moreover, people should just consume what they decide to consume given that they have a freedom of choice and so long as they can afford soda then they should consume it. Body Part 11 Point B: Drinking of soda should be banned given that the plan to ban would help protect the public. 1. The plan to ban consumption of soda is a way to safeguard the public from the soft-drink industry that pushes carbonated calories on children. Hohmann 3 2. Moreover, massive suffering as well as premature death are linked to obesity hence soda consumption should be banned to protect the community from such massive deaths and sufferings. The court’s decision is not final given the number of health specialist against the
idea. A court may have ruled in contradiction of the New York’s supersized soda ban but many
well-known nutrition experts congratulate an effort to restrict the amount of sugary drinks
American may use (Park 1). There is very clear evidence currently that soft drinks are linked to
weight gain and obesity including diabetes. The evidence is clear that soda drinking has a part in
the epidemic. Moreover, there are a lot of people who are in support of the idea that consumption
of soda is not a good idea with regard to the health of the people. With the growing cases of
obesity both to the young persons and the elderly, all measures should be done to help curb the
obese situation in New York state and in the nation at large.
Claim
In spite of the court ruling contrary to the soda ban, soda drinking should be forbidden
since there is much evidence to suggest that soda is harmful for the public because of the health
disorders like obesity and weight gain that are related to soda use. Legally, the court ruling might
the right one but with regard to the health of the people, it should be deemed as a wrong ruling
(Park 1). This is because soda consumption results in various health issues such as obesity which
