However, research affects all careers and all walks of life, including business, administration, politics, education, customer service, and criminal justice. For this week’s forum, search online for the name of a research journal that might be important to your program at Grantham or your future career. Share the name of that journal and describe what kinds of articles, research, and data it publishes. My Answer: Evidence-Based Practice It is hard for one to imagine a world without research considering its immense contribution to the development of the world. Research continues to develop in most areas and affects people from all works of life. The aspect of evidence-based practice is cropping up in most areas and continues to affect the development of various fields with its discovery of new things that people can use in the advancement of their careers. For instance, the article "Reexamining evidence-based practice in community corrections: beyond a confined view of what works" reexamines the development and scope of evidence-based practice in community corrections with its exploration of three sets of issues. The first one is the examination of the relationship of the community supervision's purpose and its relationship to questions of evidence. Exploration of the range of forms of evidence that help in informing the pursuit of supervision purpose comprises the second issue (McNeill, Farrall, Lightowler, & Maruna, 2012). The final issue is the examination of the individuals who take part in EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE 2 evidence-based practice conversation with arguments regarding the need to respect and hear the voices of both offenders and practitioners. The importance of the article is that it highlights the need to incorporate evidencebased practice in any field that would help in the achievement of desired results. Another Response: (Kimberly Timms) When conducting an Internet search, I came across The Journal of Juvenile Justice, a, peer reviewed journal by the Office of Juvenile Justice Programs, collaborating with professionals with the goal of improving juvenile justice policies and practices. On the website there are various categories, such as child protection, health, offending by juveniles, and bullying. The website has articles such as juvenile court statistics, juvenile delinquency, juvenile offenders, juvenile suicides and victims, and juveniles arrests. My childhood friend’s 17-year-old daughter committed suicide two weeks ago, which prompted me to click on the juvenile suicide journal. Although the article was published over 15 years ago (in 2004) it still provided some very interesting facts. Between the years 1981 and 1998, 20,775 juveniles between the ages of 7 and 17 committed suicide in the United States (OJJDP, n.d.). The number of youth ages 13-14 who committed suicide equaled to the number of youth who were murdered (OJJDP, n.d.) 62% of the juveniles who committed suicide were males (OJJDP, n.d.). The states with the highest juvenile suicide rates were Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and New Mexico (states from highest to lowest)(OJJDP, n.d.). The journal is important to my specific career because I plan to be a juvenile probation officer, and troubled kids turn their lives around. I also plan to really talk and pay attention to the youth that I come in contact with and let them know that there is someone who cares and believes in them. I found the journals on their website to be helpful and eye opening. EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE 3 On the website, they also include various journals on different approaches and ways the juvenile justice systems can be strengthened, ways to hold juvenile offenders accountable, and services provided to the youth and their families to address their needs. The American Journal of Criminal justice is a peer reviewed publication that offers a wide range of criminal justice topics and issues. The journal covers the criminal justice process, the formal and informal interplay between system components, problems and solutions experienced by various segments, innovative practices, policy development and implementation of those policies, evaluative research, the players that are engaging in these enterprises, and a wide variety of some of the other related interests in criminal justice. This journal will publish only original articles that utilize a broad range of methodologies and perspectives when examining crime, law, and criminal justice processing. Here is one of those such articles. " The Aftermath of Cyberstalking: School, Work, Social, and Health Costs of Victimization. Published by Erica R. Fissel, Bradford W. Reyns. The article discusses how far the victims of these crimes reaches and the impact it has on them throughout the rest of their lives. Criminologist seek to find the answers by conduct tests to recognize the characteristics of each victim caught up in this world criminal behavior. Findings of these test are recorded for future research and can be seen in the article. Another Response: (Robert Brooks) Being in law enforcement, it is good to keep tabs with how people feel about current issues plaguing the police world along with case laws being decided and equipment that is being issued to cops (As if my duty belt isn't already heavy...), but one site that might spark someone's interest would be the National Institute of Justice's publication section, entitled, "National Institute of Justice: Journal. These various articles hit on a lot of various topics; body cams (Love mine with a passion!), body armor, increasing officer safety, and much more articles! All of these briefly mentioned articles are important to myself and other law enforcement officers because many officers (me included), will swear on our body cameras. Even though body armor becomes heavy during the shift, it is vital to our lives. Officer safety is another issue, because you don't want to get hit while conducting a traffic stop or get caught in an ambush. The MCUP is part of the Marine Corps History Division and publishes original scholarly, peer-reviewed research books, journals, and other forms of research performed in military history, national security, international relations, and political science realms for worldwide communities. As a government military publisher, the press disseminates these products to research libraries, institutions, and scholars at no charge. The press also serves the faculty, staff, and students at Marine Corps University by publishing on topics related to the history, culture, politics, and future of the Corps and the U.S. military. The information contained in these articles is peer-reviewed with an impact on research and education in and out of the classroom, lessons learned and historical data. (MCUP, n.d.) One of the divisions of the MCUP is the Marine Corps University Journal (MCUJ). MCUJ offers a forum for open dialogue between scholars, policy makers, analysts, and military leaders and works in crossing civilian-military boundaries to advance knowledge and solve problems. MCUJ are open access journals, which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or their institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author (MCUJ, n.d.). These journals are a valuable resource in using historical research and case studies to better understand and plan for current and ongoing issues within the Marine Corps community. One of the topics that has been evolving for a few years and has more recently shown up in Congress and in the media is transitioning Marine Corps Recruit training into a gender integrated training platoons. Throughout history Marine Corps boot camp has been divided into all male or all female units with Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC being the only place where female recruits go to train and earn the title of United States Marine. MCUJ special issue, 2018 specifically focus on gender integration utilizing multiple previously published historical perspectives, review essays and book reviews. There are two categories of users on the website, consumers and contributors. A consumer can preselect, design or scan a 3D image onto the website using the mobile app or computer. They can then customize things such as size, color and quantity. They purchase the order and the request is sent out. Contributors are owners of 3D printers. They receive these orders and print the job to the customers specifications and ship it. MAKE-SIDE provides the opportunity to use 3D printing as supplemental job and provide customers with easily accessible prints.
