Description
The topic for the essay was whether gay marriage is legal, and my point on this topic is that I think gay marriage is legal. Because now is a pluralistic society, life is equal, we should support everyone's choice. And I'm planning on writing on another country. Today, only 16 countries around the world have passed legislation to recognize the legalization of homosexuality. There are still many countries that do not recognize and do not support, such as China. I want to develop this article on this point.

Analysis: Gay Marriage should be legalized
Introduction
Gay marriage is one of the most contentious and divisive issues in modern society.
Whereas some societies have legalized it, others still treat it as a criminal activity and an
upfront to social stability (Staszewski 33). Some countries have legalized or support gay
marriage but others such as China are yet to legalize it. Failure to legalize gay marriage is
detrimental to society. All countries in the world including China should legalize gay
marriage because denying people the right to choose their sexual orientation and relations is
discriminatory, hinders social mobility and constrains the health and well-being of the gay
couples.
Analysis
First, denying people the right to choose their sexual orientation and relations is
discriminatory. Discrimination, at the core, is the act of treating a group of people different
especially on grounds of sex, race or age. Abraham (7) argues that treating gay couples
differently on the basis of their sexual orientation is out rightly discriminatory. The society
understands marriage as a dichotomous affair in which relationships are made up of males
and females. Any other configuration is viewed as unnatural and therefore untenable.
However, this is discriminatory as gay couples are not viewed as deserving members
of society. They are treated with suspicion and in most instances subjected to violence as well
as other negative experiences in countries such as China. China, as a collective-based

country, is notably aggressive towards gay couples (Zhou 3). They are viewed as a threat to
social order and stability. Collectivism implies that group interests supersede individual
interests. Gay couples are treated differently because apparently they do not act for the
benefit of society. The observed discrimination is an attempt to discourage them from
pursuing personal interests. In sum, China should legalize gay marriage so as allow people to
choose their sexual orientation and relations as it will enhance tolerance. The overall
objective is to suppress discrimination against gay couples.
Secondly, denying people the right to choose their sexual orientation and relations
hinders social mobility. Social mobility is defined as the shift in the social status of an
individual. The movement can either be upwards, downwards, vertical, as well as horizontal
and accords people more or less of the benefits a society can offer at a given period of time.
Upwards mobility means that individuals have access to more employment opportunities,
better healthcare, and superior education opportunities among other benefits. In contrast,
downward mobility may expose individuals to negative or less ...
